Marijuana Smugglers Arrested in Malibu
Lifeguards called the Malibu Sheriff’s Station when they noticed a suspicious boat about 50 feet from the beach. Deputies reported the case to the Department of Homeland Security, which deployed aerial and marine units.
The three marijuana smuggling suspects aboard the panga boat were identified by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency as Mexican nationals. Video showed bundles being tossed overboard as the boat moved away from shore. Authorities later confirmed that each bundle contained about 20 pounds of marijuana. Total, they discovered 80 bundles, which were valued at more than $1 million.
